Epic British Vacay: The Stop that Didn’t Happen

June 27, 2024 (Day 8): Waterford, Ireland – or Not

Yeah. This will be a short one. We were SUPPOSED to see Ireland for the first time today (because airports don’t count if you don’t step a foot out) – but awoke to the captain announcing that there were gale force winds and since this was a tendering port, they would have to cancel the stop. What is a tendering port, you ask? Well, it’s when the ship is too big for the port and they have to transport you to shore in smaller boats – which apparently is dangerous in gale force winds. And so we mournfully watched the shore – and our countryside tour – disappear as we went back out to sea.

We’ve decided to blame Daniel for this since as we relaxed in a hot tub last night he mentioned that as much as he was looking forward to seeing Ireland, he wished we had another sea day. Wish granted!

Honestly, of all the tours we booked, if one had to be cancelled, this was probably the least disappointing one, so we decided to embrace the extra day of rest – especially since this is the morning I woke up with a sore throat and Daniel woke up coughing. Despite taking vitamins almost every day! Ugh. So, yes, the day was mostly spent sleeping or in the hot tub and honestly we have enjoyed a day of complete relaxation and are in high hopes that it will stave off this illness attempting to approach.
