I deviate once again from my regularly scheduled programming to share something about Pony Express! Why, you ask? Well, not only do I have plans to write a book placed on the Pony Express at some point, but it is a natural point of interest since the Pony Express trail was placed along the California Trail, and therefore many of the places along the trail I visited doubled as Pony Express stops! But I specifically wanted to make sure that you all know:
The Pony Express still operates today!
Well, in a manner of speaking. Once a year, there is a pony express ride in which the rider makes his way from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, CA in ten days. Not only can you go to the stops to see them, but you can even send a letter yourself if you want. Now, sadly, the deadline appear to have already passed for this year to send your own letter, but keep an eye out for next year! This year’s run is taking place from June 17 – June 27, and I’ve copied links with additional information below, as well as the National Park Service’s map of where the riders will be when in case any of you live near enough to see for yourselves (I wish I could!).
