I had some exciting news to share! For those of you who haven’t seen it on social media (and based on the incredible number of kind congratulations I got, I have to believe there aren’t many of you left), I WON the Genesis award in the historical category!
Like, actually won. Out of everyone who submitted. Even now it feels surreal.
For those who don’t know, the American Christian Fiction Writers organization hosts one of the biggest – okay – probably THE biggest conference for Christian writers in the nation, and their two main contests are the Genesis and the Carol awards – Genesis for unpublished writers and Carol for published. If you are a part of the writing community on social media at all, at this time of year, you will generally see dozens of posts about finalists and wins from the ACFW conference – and this year, I AM ONE OF THEM! I entered the Historical category for, you guessed it, A Picture of the Past, which means it has now officially won TWO big awards. At least, the first fifteen pages has.
It’s the first year I’ve actually entered, so I feel almost guilty since I know there are a lot of people who enter year after year in hopes of winning – but I am also beyond excited…and this, above all else, is giving me the push I need to actually start querying.
Okay, so I still have some edits to complete – but not that many, all told, and now that I feel semi-recovered from my three months of travel/company, I am feeling jittery, which generally means it is time to start writing again.
Anyway, just wanted to share that with you all, and also CONGRATULATIONS to all my fellow winners, finalists, and semi-finalists – no matter where you placed, it is a huge deal!
